GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Delinquency Supervisor is required to lead organizational, strategic and operational planning, organize and manage the development, operation and recovery of funds owed by members of the Credit Union.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

The incumbent is required to manage, monitor and oversee the delinquency portfolio of the debt recovery department, so as to achieve the objectives of the Society in support of SECU Credit Union’s mandate and is responsible for:

·     Collecting delinquent accounts in accordance with procedures and standards, so that issues with arrears are mitigated and kept to a minimum.

·     Assisting with the management of the department by supporting a cohesive work team and contribute to staff development.

·     Assisting in co-ordinating related functions to ensure Society meets its commitments and maintains its financial integrity.

·     Reporting directly to the Finance Manager.

·     Attending and Co-ordinating all actions derived from the Delinquency Control Committee Meetings.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·       Assist in the development and implementation of the recoveries strategy to support corporate objectives i.e. through the development of an appropriate Delinquency/Recoveries Policy and Procedure for all Branches.

·       Trains, coaches and mentors support staff

·       Direct reports and assist in establishing and implementing Department’s objectives.

·       Assist with the on-going evaluation of employees (Performance Management System) and recommends the appropriate Training and Development plans where necessary

·       Prepares and distributes weekly/monthly and as required Delinquency reports in accordance with pre-determined templates and standards.

·       Analyses accounts and takes steps as necessary in accordance with approved guidelines to reduce delinquency ratios.

·       Expedite processes – telephone calls, official correspondence, field visits, referrals to Commissioner, or such other action in accordance with approved procedures.

·       Follow up on delinquent accounts as required.

·       Monitor accounts for payments, provide direction on debt restructure.

·       Addresses staff and members queries in a timely manner.

·       Co-ordinates effort with the branches, relevant departments and Committees.

·       Prepare legal documents and supporting correspondence and issues to Commissioner, Attorney and Bailiff as necessary.

·       Represents the Credit Union at Hearings and Voluntary Settlement meeting and ensures that the Commissioner’s orders are executed (e.g.) Judgments and Levies.

·       Liaises with the Bailiff and named attorney to ensure that matters are handled in accordance with both the Credit Union’s and Commissioner’s guidelines:

o   Works closely with providers internally and externally for Skip traces of delinquent members Prepares listing for Financial Concepts, Publishing, frozen accounts and write offs.

o   Maintains high standard of Financial Management and record keeping.

o   Determines strategies to reduce arrears.

o   Monitors active and lapsed debt payment agreements.

·       Post all legal fees, Bailiff fees and share transfers to members’ accounts.

·       Performs any other duties related to the job function as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management/Finance/Accounting or equivalent combination of qualifications training and experience.

·       In-depth knowledge of Recoveries Techniques and Practices.

·       Proficiency in the use of Office Tools and other software relevant to job functions.

·       In-depth knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures.

·       Familiarity with the Co-operative Philosophy and Credit Union Operating Principles.

·       Minimum of five (5) experience performing similar functions, preferably in a credit union environment, with at least three (3) years supervisory experience.

·       Collections experience will be an asset.
